Reps rehearse the hard calls before they happen

A voice roleplay agent that lets sales reps rehearse hard customer conversations, scores each session on objection handling, rapport, product knowledge and next steps, and sends the scorecard to Slack, as Impel built on Claude

Function: SalesEffort: About a weekPublished: 2026-10-22

The problem

A new sales hire learns the hard conversations by losing a few real ones first, and the owner is the only coach in the company. Ramping takes months, and the objections that cost deals are the same ones every time.

How the agent works

  1. It starts

The team writes practice tracks from its own recorded calls: the objections, the awkward pricing moments, the support complaints that turn into churn.

  2. The agent works

A rep opens the agent and talks to it by voice; speech to text feeds Claude, which plays the customer in the chosen track, and text to speech answers back. When the session ends the agent scores it on objection handling, rapport, product knowledge and next steps, and sends the scorecard as a direct message in Slack. Nobody is forced to practise; reps use it on their own time, and the manager reads the scorecards and picks what to coach.

  3. The result

The human checkpoints are the manager's review of the tracks before they go live and of the scores before they count for anything.

Worked example

Anthropic's case study on Impel, which builds AI for automotive dealers and has over 150 customer facing reps, describes a dealer roleplay agent built in about 3 weeks (Britt DeJohn, SVP of Operations) after analysing over 150,000 recorded dealer calls (Benjy Kest, Chief of Staff). The study reports ramp time cut from 3 to 6 months to about 1 month, about 25% of go to market staff practising voluntarily in the past month, and up to 20% fewer escalations in the first two months of a rollout (Britt DeJohn). Scorecards go out by Slack DM. These are Impel's figures; the practice tracks for your business have to come from your own calls.

Data protection. This use case touches personal data, so check the rules where you operate (for example GDPR, PDPA). Recorded calls contain customer names and details. Make sure call recording was disclosed and consented to under the rules where you operate before analysing them, strip names, numbers and identifying details from the practice tracks, and keep each rep's scorecards visible only to that rep and their manager.

Your next proposal starts from your best ones

A sales agent that finds the last similar proposals in SharePoint and the client's email thread in Outlook through Claude's Microsoft 365 connector, and drafts the new proposal for the account manager to finish

SalesEffort: An afternoonMicrosoft 365 · SharePoint · Outlook

In an agency or systems integrator the best proposals live in SharePoint folders nobody can find, so each new one starts from a blank page or from whatever the account manager wrote last. Pricing tables, scope wording and case references get retyped, and the proposal goes out two days later than the client was promised.

No quote or renewal slips through again

An agent that checks HubSpot every morning for quotes with no reply and licences due for renewal, then drafts the follow up email and a task for the rep

SalesEffort: An afternoonHubSpot · Claude · Slack

A reseller sends a Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 quote, the customer goes quiet, and nobody follows up until the quarter review. Renewals are worse: the date sits in a deal property, the rep is busy, and the customer hears from the vendor before they hear from you.

Know your pipeline without asking

An agent in Slack that pulls deal state from HubSpot, briefs the rep before a call and posts a Monday pipeline digest

SalesEffort: An afternoonHubSpot · Slack · Claude

Sales owners in a small team learn what is happening in the pipeline by asking in Slack, and the answer depends on who is online and whether they updated HubSpot. Renewals slip past their date, deals sit in one stage for weeks unnoticed, and the pre-call homework is done in a rush from memory.
